The ruling NDA MPs staged a demonstration outside Parliament today against the imposition of the emergency in 1975. Displaying placards, the MPs raised slogans demanding an apology from Congress for the imposition of emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Speaking to the media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said it was on this day in 1975 that former PM Indira Gandhi had called an early morning meeting and imposed emergency.
“We have passed a resolution in the house today stating that such an incident will never be repeated and the Constitution will never be subverted,” he added.
