In the run-up to the International Day of Yoga, ‘Evergreen Yoga’ organised a pre-event at popular Ravindra Sarovar Park, Dhanmondi, Dhaka today. The event was organised in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, Dhaka. It was a kind of yoga session and demonstration to popularise yoga and its benefits and also to give wide publicity to the upcoming International Day of Yoga, 2024. Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts gathered in large numbers at the venue to take part in the event. Evergreen Yoga’s Bappa Shantonu said that in the last decade, yoga has become very popular in Dhaka as well as in other parts of Bangladesh. Yoga helps people maintain physical and mental health, among many other benefits, so people are adopting Yoga and pranayama rapidly, he said. There are more than 200 certified yoga teachers in Bangladesh, and around 25 yoga organisations are functional in Dhaka only, said Rokanuzzaman Tutul, a yoga practitioner and teacher. There are many other Yoga Day-related events scheduled to be held over the coming week across Bangladesh as people show great attraction to yoga in Bangladesh.
